Matt's 2002 WRX

After test driving the car to the Oregon coast over the weekend. Matt purchased the 2002 Subaru WRX wagon in Fall of 2007 with about 100k miles from Mountain Tech Auto Sales. The Subaru was stock other than the COBB Cat-Back exhaust and tinted windows. The first thing to do was, source some 18 inch Enkei EVO 5 racing wheels to replace the stock 16's. For handling and looks he used Perrin lowering springs, which dropped it about 2 inches. The next step was make the wagon faster. A heat wrapped Injen Up-Pipe, Invidia V3 Down-pipe and an Injen Cold Air Intake were added to help the 2.0 DOHC Engine breathe better and flow more air. Samco hoses were put on the intercooler along with an AVO blow off valve, that recirculates back to the intake. The coolant hoses to the throttle body were removed and looped back to the cooling system to eliminate any higher temperatures to the intake than is already given off by the turbo and engine. It was off to Rallitek to get the Stage 2 Tuning done. The boost was changed from 14.5psi to 17PSI and the fuel map was reconfigured. It was an amazing difference from stock!

Matt put on Willwood's Big Brake Kit with slotted rotors and stainless brake lines which makes the car stop very fast with great brake pedal feel. To stiffen up the handling, an STI rear sway bar and solid end-links were used. The Whiteline rear strut bar and front strut bar made turning tight corners very fun. A Megan Racing H-Brace finished off the final handling modifications. After installing a Perrin Lightened Crank Pulley the engine revs became smoother and a little more power was added to the low end right off the line. Inside the car is Alpine's iPod/Cd Player. Most all the tunes come from an iPod tucked in under the player. The speakers are component with separate tweeters custom mounted on the door panels and are amazing compared to the stock speakers. He used a Alpine 500 watt amp to power a single 10 inch JL Audio in a sealed box. It is compact and still provides nice tight bass. Matt performed the HID dual beam headlight mod with 8k color bulbs/ballasts, 3k HID in the fogs, and PIAA Plasma Blue marker light bulbs. Seibon carbon fiber for the hood and a carbon fiber STI hood-scoop. Matt has really loved modifying his WRX and has added about 15k miles of some very enjoyable driving.
